Brynje is a Norwegian family business from Larvik that has been knowned for quality, functionality, and durability since 1887.

In 1887, Jacob Jacobsen founded J. Jacobsen Trikotasje og Konfeksjon in Larvik, Norway. In 1921, Henrik Brun from Uvdal invented the very first “Brynje-trøya,” a garment that resembled the chain mail worn by Vikings.

The thermal shirt was further developed in collaboration with the defense and eventually became an important part of the equipment on demanding expeditions to the world’s most inhospitable places. When Hillary and Tenzing climbed Mt. Everest as the first people in 1953, it was with Brynje’s thermal shirt against the skin.

Today, Brynje’s mesh, wool and shell clothing is used by polar guides, people in tough professions and outdoor enthusiasts who travel outside in all weathers.
